Weekend With Betsy Bento

20091019 :: weekend with betsy bento

A very old friend (we went to kindergarten together!) came to town over the weekend, and we just relaxed and ate. Perfect. She made me promise to make a bento with the leftovers, so here it is.

Contents, clockwise from top left:

  • Brown rice mixed with braised kabocha squash, caramelized onions, and parmesan cheese, topped with purple graffiti cauliflower florets
  • “Peasant soup” of caramelized onions, potatoes and cabbage, with added chicken truffle sausage and Worcestershire sauce, and a bit of flat leaf parsley from my garden for color and freshness
  • Apple crisp with watermelon flowers

Last week was the last CSA pickup… so sad! Included in this bento are apples, kabocha squash, cabbage, potatoes, watermelon, and onion from my CSA, cauliflower from the farmers market, and herbs from my garden.
